Editorial note: DecisionLab publishes consumer information and calculators, not personal financial advice. Every figure used by a calculator cites the original ATO, APRA, MoneySmart, Fair Work, or state revenue source. For decisions about your specific circumstances, consult a registered financial adviser, tax agent, or mortgage broker.

About me

I run DecisionLab as an independent Australian consumer-finance information publisher. I am not a registered financial adviser, tax agent, or mortgage broker, and the site is not authorised under an Australian Financial Services Licence. My role is editorial: I gather, verify, and present what the official Australian government and regulator publications (ATO, APRA, ASIC, MoneySmart, Services Australia, Fair Work, state revenue offices) say about money topics, in calculator form and in plain English — and I source the financial-professional directory at /find/ directly from the ASIC public registers via data.gov.au.

The calculators are written in JavaScript that runs in the visitor's browser. No personal information leaves the page. Inputs are not logged.

Editorial standards

Every calculator cites a primary source

Tax brackets are the current ATO published rates. Superannuation guarantee rates and concessional caps come from the ATO super pages. Stamp duty schedules are taken directly from each state and territory revenue office. Award rates come from the Fair Work Commission's Pay & Conditions Tool. HECS/HELP repayment thresholds come from the ATO's study and training support loan schedule. Public-holiday rates come from Fair Work National Employment Standards. Where a calculator depends on a forecast (e.g. compound interest growth), the assumption is stated on the page in plain English.

Directory listings are sourced from ASIC, not user submissions

The 73,000+ professional listings under /find/ are sourced from four ASIC public registers — the Financial Advisers Register, the Credit Licensee Register, the Credit Representative Register, and the AFS Licensee Register — published as open data on data.gov.au under Creative Commons. We do not accept paid placement, do not edit registration details, and do not allow listed professionals to remove their entries while their ASIC registration is active.

What this site does not do

Updates and corrections

Calculators are reviewed against current ATO/APRA/state-revenue published rates at every Federal Budget (May), the start of each financial year (1 July), and at any out-of-cycle ATO update. Blog posts show their last-updated date in the meta line. Corrections requested at hello@decisionlab.com.au are typically actioned within 2 business days; specific calculator errors usually within 24 hours.

Funding and conflicts of interest

DecisionLab earns revenue from advertising (Google AdSense pending), planned affiliate links to financial products (with disclosure), and may in future offer paid enhanced listings to professionals already in the ASIC-sourced directory. Any current commercial relationship is disclosed on the relevant page. We do not have any equity, payment, or referral arrangement with any individual financial adviser, mortgage broker, lender, super fund, or insurer at the time of writing.

Verifiable identity

The most direct way to verify the editorial identity behind this site is the email address above. A reply with a header to a specific corrections request is direct contact with the editor.

I do not maintain a public LinkedIn or other social profile. Email is the verification channel, and is the same channel that handles enquiries across the publisher network — DecisionLab is the flagship of a network of consumer-information sites covering complementary verticals: salary data (SalaryThread), NDIS providers (ProviderScout), GPs (GPScout), dentists (DentistScout), life-admin (SortedAus), and travel vaccination guidance (VaccinationsForTravel). The Person schema on this page intentionally omits a sameAs field rather than linking a profile that does not exist.

Get in touch

Email is the best way to reach me — for corrections, suggestions, source-verification questions, or feedback on a specific calculator or blog post: hello@decisionlab.com.au. Replies usually within 2 business days. Page-specific corrections typically same-day.
