Your FIRE number is the amount of invested wealth you need to live off indefinitely. It equals your annual expenses divided by 0.04 (the 4% safe withdrawal rate). For example, if you spend $50,000 per year, your FIRE number is $1,250,000.

What is a good savings rate for FIRE?

Accepted Answer

A savings rate of 50% or higher is considered aggressive FIRE territory, potentially allowing retirement in 15-17 years. A 25% savings rate targets retirement in about 32 years. The higher your savings rate, the faster you reach FIRE because you both save more and need less.
